Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
A clear highlight at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is its Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU). Staffed by nurses, it visits rural locations in the area and reduces travel time for patients, many of whom would otherwise face 50-mile round trips to the hospital. As well as being convenient for patients, the unit increases capacity on the chemotherapy day unit which is now providing more treatments for haematology and oncology patients.
The Christie Private Care, part of HCA Healthcare UK
We were particularly impressed with the psychology and wellbeing service available for patients and staff at The Christie Private Care, part of HCA Healthcare UK. The service provides a range of workshops, groups and courses to help patients live as well as possible. Topics covered include exercise, diet and emotional and psychological wellbeing. There is also a dedicated course for patients’ partners in need of extra support.
Blackpool Victoria Hospital
Last but not least, the team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital shows a real drive to make treatment that little bit easier for patients. Staff have introduced an on-site haematology ambulatory care unit to help provide alternatives to current inpatient options. The unit also recently extended its working hours, including at the weekend, to better fit around patients’ work and family commitments. Patients who live further afield even have the option to stay in hospital accommodation while they receive a stem cell transplant.
